How Important is Design?

How Important is Design?

So, as a business consultant we get asked this question all the time, \”How important are the graphicsdesign for my campaign?\” The reality is that the design plays a major role in conversion. User Interface or  UI and User Experience or UX  should be so easy to navigate that the surfer\’s search for finding something on your App, Website, Facebook or other social media campaigns should be effortless.

How design impacts your visibility?

From a user\’s perspective, reading a block of text is lifeless if they are not able to imagine a story behind it. As a matter of fact, any monotonous news, articles, blogs or write-ups are generating little to no attention without proper creatives.

Design process

Regardless of what you are creating, whether it\’s website, app or social media campaign or lead pages, there is a proper flow of steps that need to be taken when getting your designs ready:

  1. Start by gathering requirements, no one knows it better than the subject matter expert. Who, what, where, when, how? These are the questions that need to be answered. This should give you a good idea of what to be included immediately when the person lands on your website, app or even a landing page. Start by creating a “wireframe.” If you are designing a website, for example, a homepage, that would be a summary of your entire website on that page.
  2. What do you want the user to do? With that being mentioned as confusing as a website or app can be, with many sections, services, products, images, and videos, what is expected of the user? Remember you have to guide the user to do something or take an action. In the design and marketing world, it\’s called \”CALL TO ACTION\”. This could be in form of a button that gets them to call over the phone, fill an informative form or application online or take them to a product page that allows the user to buy.
  3. Next in the design process, a designer will create a \”PSD\” abbreviated for Photoshop design. This is where the wireframe is turned into a beautiful design that is the flow of your vision. The color combination should stay within your logo boundaries. Remember too many colors make people lose trust. A serious business only caters to no more than 3 colors. Of course, if you are designing a festive, or business that caters to kids, then to make it joyful and melodious experience for the target audience, throw some animation as well. Use of color combination, backgrounds, textured themes are always subjective to each eye. Think you are not doing this for yourself but for your users/prospects. Think would the color work for them? Use of cliche is sometimes permitted or even necessary. Example: If the \”Home\” button on a website was to placed on the extreme right, won\’t it be difficult for the user to find it. Similarly, color \”red\” if overly used or wrong use of the color gives a user feeling of inaccuracy and a mistake.

  4. Now that your PSD file is ready and you are satisfied with the design. The next phase it turning the PSD to an action-oriented HTML+CSS design.
